We have one of the largest planting projects in Canada. We have 50 acres within our school site. The back 43 acres has been planting with a variety of species since 1994. We have planted over 12,000 seedlings, 500 large scales (8-12') trees and hundreds of shrubs. Our project's success rate has been excellent over the past fourteen years. The six inch seedlings are 3'-20', with over a 60% success rate.. The shrub seedlings are 2'-8' tall and the species are producing nuts and berries for the local wildlife. We have fundraised over $22,000 and are planning another major planting session this spring. The last six years, we have thinned out the species, transplanted species and maintained a 1/2 acre reading area at the side of the school adjacent to the forest. The project has won one national award and two national honorable mentions from environmental organizations.
