Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 02/05/2008

Number: 1

We have had adults, larvae, and eggs in abundance so far in late January and February. Females have been loading the curassavica with eggs the past week. We have had many days near or at 80 the last week and have had only two light frosts this winter. The same is true up and down the Texas coast and I hear of many monarchs in the metro area of Houston. Unless there is a hard freeze now in the next four weeks some of these monarchs may beat the migrants in Mexico in trying to move northward. The ground is warm, now to see when the milkweeds begin to sprout, has been as early as the 15th of February!
