Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 02/11/2008

Number: 1

I was bird watching at a park in south Alachua County Florida. It is called the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings State Historical Site. It is the home of the author, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings who wrote the books South Moon Under and The Yearling, which was made into a movie. I was birding in the east part of the site, near a boat slip where fishermen launch their small boats. I saw four American robins foraging in the grass on the east side of the boat slip. One of them flew up into a large long leaf pine. The other three stayed on the ground. At the same place I also saw a great egret, a tri-colored heron, a bald eagle, some American crows and some yellow-rumped warblers. I stopped there because some other birders had reported seeing a limpkin there. But I could not find the limpkin. I love robins, they make me think of teddy bears. If your have a DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer of Florida, the park is on page 72, coordinates 11/A.
