Bald Eagle

Date: 02/10/2008

Number: 1

On Saturday, February 9th an immature perched at noon in a maple tree west of the deer carcasses but did not come in to feed. Photographed through screening branches. No bands or tags visible.
Yesterday, Sunday, February 10 found two mature balds come in: the first at 1:45 pm and the second at 2:25 pm. The first bird clearly observed feeding on the ice was New York bird N 47, blue right leg banded and federal silver on left leg. This bird became quite aggressive when the second flew down to feed. The newcomer did not appear to be banded, but I am uncertain about that as there was 6 inches of new snow atop 14 inches from Thursday, February 7th and the newcomer landed in all that fluff.
The banded bird was only the second identified with certainty this year, V 21 having visited for awhile from January 5th through the 16th. That adult bald was banded blue NYS band on left leg, silver federal band right leg. Not seen since January.
