With the colder weather, the river has frozen more. This is keeping the eagles in the area right now.
Since the river is also above flood stage, I believe that is keeping the eagles in the backwater areas. Therefore, we don't seem to have as many along our Illinois Riverfront.
The eagles also like to hang out at the mouth of the Spoon River where it empties into the Illinois (right across from our riverfront).
