Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 02/14/2008

Number: 1

The number of overwintering monarchs seem to have increased the past few days or we have been out watching more. The backyard Asclepias curassavica has never stopped growing and larvae of all instars made appearances as we were attempting to do some of our first spring trimmings this weekend. I have about a third cut back to a foot and hope to have all done by the time the remigrants arrive in a month. We had a coupled pair in the backyard just after noon today, male rather faded, female moderately faded. Most are "new" but some are showing fade and have been around awhile.
