Robin (First HEARD singing)

Date: 02/15/2008

Number: 1

During the Great Backyard Feeder watch, my class and I observed a robin singing in a apple tree. Our winter has seen lots of snow and cold, but this robin is about one month early.

There was no wind to speak of that day so I brought with me a Bionic Booster Electronic Sound Amplifier made by Silver Creek Industries in Manitowoc, Wi and sold by Cabela’s. (Great tool in looking for birds) I stood on a quiet street and did a 360 with the volume at 30%. (100% would probably blow you ear drums) I heard what I would call a “Robin Song”. The frequency of the song was not as often as on your sound track, but I had a gut feeling that I was listening to a robin. With the use of binoculars, I saw this robin sitting in an apple tree on a hill in the back yard of a home. The hill gives us a high view of Lewistown. If you go to Google Earth and type in 47.03.32N, 109.25.59W it will get you close to the sighting. The actual tree location is 47.03.32.21N and 109.25.59.26W but Google Earth will not let you type that many numbers. The Junior High is the building just to the North.
