On Sunday, Feb. 17th I returned from church at 9:44 AM to a flurry of feathery friends flying around the edge of our stream called Lubber's Run and in our first fields gleaning over the ground. My neighbor and I estimated there to be at least 2000 blackbirds. I stopped my car to observe them. Most of them were Rusty Blackbirds. However, in the midst of the flocks I saw a red-winged blackbird.
By Feb. 25th that Red-winged Blackbird had set up territory in the cattails by the edge of the stream. He is heard singing away his territory call each morning when I feed my other birds.
