Red-winged blackbirds are plentiful here at Winterhaven Farm, and I saw my first one of the year yesterday. They are fascinating nest builders. They weave their nests close to the ground, using new grass shoots as the upright stalks. Then, as the grass shoots grow, the nest gets higher and higher off the ground. Pretty clever.
