Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/10/2008

Number: 1

We have not seen any monarchs yet. Last year I was actually able to get pictures of some roosting going north. One thing that is definitely missing is humidity. We have not had any rain at all. There has been rain in the other states around us, but Queretaro has been dry as a bone.

The southern migration passed north and west of us. It was the first year since I have lived here that we did not see any monarchs roosting in the fall.

My milkweed plants are doing well. Half of them survived the winter. Those plants are about a meter tall. New plants are about 10 inches high now. Other plants that are blossoming now in this zone are ganzia, bougenvillia, roses, lavender, geraniums, stattice, amaryllis, irises as well as peach trees and apple trees. There are nectar bearing plants available throughout the area.
