Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/12/2008

Number: 1

March 13
I found a monarch that was partially eaten by a bird. I measure the wing span. It was 4 inches. There is very little activity so far today. The weather is warm, 28degreesC and it is an overcast day.

The monarchs have arrived in Tequisquiapan! It reached 29 degressC this afternoon. This morning we had light showers and it was about 6 degrees C. At 6 o'clock in the afternoon, I saw a lot of monarchs hovering in a subdivision called Club de Golf. I saw about 100 in 5 minutes.

March 10
We have not seen any monarchs yet.One thing that is definitely missing is humidity. We have not had any rain at all. There has been rain in the other states around us, but Queretaro has been dry as a bone.

My milkweed plants are doing well. Half of them survived the winter. Those plants are about a meter tall. New plants are about 10 inches high now. Other plants that are blossoming now in this zone are ganzia, bougenvillia, roses, lavender, geraniums, stattice, amaryllis, irises as well as peach trees and apple trees. There are nectar bearing plants available throughout the area.
