Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 01/01/2008

Number: 1

This is not actually a "first sighting." I was fortunate to have a ruby-throat all winter. Some of the 1st pictures indicate that she was missing one of her primary feathers on both wings, although she appears to have a complete set now - guess she just decided she had it made and would stay. While the flowers have been in short supply for the last couple of months, I've kept a fresh supply of fruit flies which she occassionally indulges in. A 60-watt shop-light pointed at the feeder on the really cold nights provided a warm place for her to perch as she drank from the feeder first thing on the really cold mornings!
