I have monarch wintering in Texas City Texas. All winter long when the outside departures reaches 70 deg the monarch's come out and flutter around the yard. Some lay eggs on milkweed this
produces a year round hatch. When the temperature drops to the 40's, it doesn't kill the caterpillars but their feeding stops
until it warms
