On Sunday 03/16/08 at around 5 pm, as I was observing St-Lawrence River from Cap-de-la-Madeleine, I caught in my binoculars an immature BALD EAGLE flying around. I saw him land on a large ice floe, in the midst of current. Had he seen dead fish? He drifted away for a long time. He was going towards Becancour. Suddenly he took off, flying just above water. I almost couldn't see him. He wanted to surprise a group of little ducks (unspecified). What a great take-off scene! The BALD EAGLE went to land on top of a snow banc, at the limit of the permanent ice, on the south shore, around 0,3 mile before the port entrance, by road. I could still see him well. But, had he captured a prey? He was standing straight, sometimes he would bend forward, and straighten up again. At one point, he disappeared behind the snow banc, and climbed back to his place. Had his prey slipped down? I couldn't say... Too far!
Great observation anyway! Translator: Anick BECHARD.
