Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/22/2008

Number: 1

I'm not aware of seeing any milkweed here yet, although I'll look more closely when I'm out running errands this afternoon. Spring has just sprung here in the last week or so (we had a snow flurry last Saturday!). It looked like winter 10 days ago; now the desert floor is carpeted with tiny gold flowers and the purple ground cover that accompanies it is just starting to appear. I've also seen young mustard blooming in the last few days, I was munching on some a couple of days ago.
Our wildflowers here vary greatly year to year depending upon the amount and timing of rainfall over the winter. We were quite dry last year, but this year was a bit better. If the milkweed isn't up, it will be within the next week.
