Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/08/2008

Number: 1

Have observed a healthy number of larva on my plants. Sadly though, I don't think they will make it to the butterfly stage. I am having a terrible time with the fly that unkindly lays her eggs in the larva. Sometimes they make half their chrysalis and the effort takes them, sometimes they will make it all the way to looking like they are about to hatch, and then they don't, sometimes they start the process and are half out, then die. Its very distressing. The fly has to attack the larva at a very early stage because I try to bring them inside to give them a chance, but I still don't succeed. Any ideas would be helpful. The two biggest mortality issues that "my monarchs" face, is the wasps that like to feed on them, and the fly. Its hard to watch nature at work sometimes!
