All Other Signs of Spring

We had a pair of Canadian geese land on the small pond on our property on March 17th. In past years, we've seen them fly in for short stays, as was the case with a pair of Mallards a few weeks prior. Since this pair stayed for several days, we were hoping they would stay for the season to raise their young. Two years ago we were priviledged to experience this. Two days ago, while the pair were out exploring about 20 yards from the pond, three other geese flew over and landed on the pond. The two original "homesteaders" actually flew the short distance back to the pond, honking their little honkers out. The two successfully managed to force the three invaders off the pond and as I left for work, they were pushing them on land further from the pond. Unfortunately, when I returned home, all were gone. Bummer.......
