All Other Signs of Spring

Had a Great Blue Heron fly in and land on our small pond. What a sight to see one of these large birds land. They look like something prehistoric in flight, but once they land you'd swear you were being visited by a stork! At the time this guy or gal landed, there were 2 Canadian Geese also waddling around. Neither minded the other party's company. Soon the Heron took to fishing by standing motionless, with its head fully extended. Then with the speed of lighting, it would strike its beak into the water. After catching its prey it would cock its head high into the air and swallow it whole. As the summer approaches the Heron will actually catch frogs in excess of 6" in diameter and in repeated fashion, bash its catch against the water. I don't know if this breaks its back or simply stuns the frog. But then the Heron will, again raise its head high and choke the frog down whole, head first.
