Bald Eagle

Date: 03/25/2008

Number: 1

Lots of action these past three days with eight different birds coming to carcasses to feed: NY birds F-2?(believed to be banded F-29 adult seen last year); adult banded V-21(a reqular diner since January 5th) and three unbanded immatures, a subadult and two unbanded matures. All feed heavily and cooperatively, for the most part. N47 and N56 must have moved on. Still 3 feet hard ice and Raquette River only slowly opening. Bog River now cutting open water from the falls into Tupper Lake past Paradise Point and curling to Slim Cove. Should be great viewing there very soon. Looks like our Lake Simond observations should last another three weeks, at least, with the long-term weather forecast. Not as many banded birds observed as in February and March last year. Wonder why?
