Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/24/2008

Number: 1

We went out southwest of town and Altus walked one of the
barditches where we were watching a very faded female monarch
zip-zagging along ... we knew there was A. viridis there. Altus' first count was along twenty yards on the viridis plants
in various stages and she found ten eggs. We picked up anchor,
moved about thirty yards and she walked about thirty more yards
where she found fifteen eggs. Some evidence of larval activity, but no larva (midafternoon). We watched five very faded monarchs working this section along this farm road in 20 minutes and another where we checked some blooms another a mile over. None flying like a few days ago, all very faded and working right over the ground. Had 41 eggs on some new plants when we got home.
