Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/25/2008

Number: 1

I've just been doing some checking, and I'm not sure if I saw a Monarch or a Painted Lady last week. We were out this morning, and we were seeing LOTS of butterflies. In groups of 2, 3, 4, over and over. We had to have seen a couple of hundred in an hour or so.
Unfortunately, we were driving, so we couldn't get a good look at them. We assumed they were Monarchs, but after rereading your email I'm not sure! They could well have all been Painted Ladies, or even both. I do know that the lupine is in bloom out here, and that's a common food for the Ladies.
Just thought I'd let you know. It was a real treat to see them, even if we couldn't get a good view!
