At the Choctaw Trails site in SW Jackson this afternoon (March 29, 2008, 4-5pm), two females were observed laying eggs with frequent stops in the fields. In an abandoned dirt road milkweed sprouts were conspicuous, and these were laden with eggs; plants in the meadow proper were shorter and had fewer eggs. A vehicle had passed down the roadway and crushed a few plants; these I collected and the 13 springs (40-80 mm long) had 118 total eggs.
