It's just after 8:30 Monday evening, March 31,Daylight savings time and I was sitting outside in the drizzle adding wood and sap to the maple syrup pan when I heard my first woodcock of the season... it was calling/singing over by the pond. There is still not a lot of open space near the ponds, and I worry about what the little woodcock will eat. I also heard the coyote pack quite close to the house tonight. It is warm (+6C) and wet today. The snow is melting very quickly now and the south slopes are pretty much clear of snow. The open farm fields are showing through - looks like spring is here!
