I had an email from a colleague near Auburn, (Dadeville, AL, roughly midway between Birmingham and Montgomery)
She spotted 3 monarchs gliding about and nectaring on thistles. No apparent milkweed that had broken dormancy where she was.
She reported that all were brightly colored and excellent condition. Wonder if they had spent a leisure winter in Florida instead of the challenges of Mexico...
