A Monarch flew through our backyard just after noon today. It perched on a a dead leaf on the ground ( in an area protected from the wind) for about 10 minutes and then flew over to some wildflowers to nectar for a short time and then resumed its northeastward flight. Wing conditions were moderately faded. Temp around 60 degrees, sunny skies and west winds at 10mph gusting over 20mph. Yesterday a moderatley faded Monarch flew by around 4:15pm. I decided to scout for milkweed in the fields behind our house and observed another Monarch with very faded wings. It was a female and she seemed to be looking for milkweed as well. Temp was 66 degrees, partly cloudy skies and southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. I have yet to find any milkweed in the yard, garden or adjacent fields. Expect low temps in the 30's by Monday morning.
