Prairie crocus are flowering along the north side of Trans-Canada Highway where the snow disappears first. Only a few were seen but soon the ditches in the Prawda to Pinegrove Rest Stop will be generously dotted with the beautiful little mauve flowers. Every year I walk into the open ditches armed with my camera on macro and a garbage bag to lie on to get closer to the little flowers. They are so predictable...regardless of the severity of the past winter they always seem to emerge around the same date.
