As my wife and I were travelling south on Manitoba Hwy. 59 at approximately 9:45 a.m. a pair of large white cranes came gliding in for a landing in a marsh on the right hand side of the highway. We were travelling at about 100km/hr as we approached them. They passed right in front of us giving us an extremely close up view of 2 adult whooping cranes. This sighting occurred about 15 km north of the border crossing at Lancaster, Minnesota/Tolstoi, Manitoba. We were unable to see where they had landed as the view was obstructed by willows.
