Is something going on that we don't know about? We have seen several monarchs flying around our milkweed plants. When we discover the caterpillars we are so excited but then they just disappear without a trace. Can someone help us understand what may be the reason for this disappearing act? In years past we were able to see the chrysalis and watch the butterfly emerge.
We did some research and found out yellow jackets sometimes eat caterpillars but we haven't seen any around our milkweed.
