Was enjoying a nice afternoon with my windows open when I heard a familiar sound from my childhood. I looked at our bird feeder in the backyard, and there sat a beautiful red winged blackbird! I remember them from camping in California as a child, as they have such a distinct call, and markings.

My autistic daughter, who is 4, doesn't generally care about the birds at the feeder, but she even came running to investigate the sound.

He has been back about every 2 hours the past couple days, and calling each time he eats. It is such a treat for my daughter, who runs to the window each time she hears him, and says "tweet tweet" in response to his call.

I have lived in Florida for 15 yrs, and have never seen a red winged blackbird here! I hope he stays awhile...
