Number: 1

April 17 & 18
The monarch “flood gates” are wide open up here in the eastern panhandle of Texas…have seen literally hundreds in the last two days. Randy B.…Oasis Creek Ranch Hemphill County, Texas… Ellis & Roger Mills Counties, Oklahoma.

April 20
In the past few days have been seeing hundreds of Monarchs migrating north with the favorable south winds of spring…today, we have a north wind and they are lingering around the not so windy areas here at the headquarters, refueling their energy supplies on the henbit and other early blossoms…bidding their time and patiently waiting for the winds to swing back around from the south…then, hitching a ride back to the northern climes from where their journey began last autumn…Warm and gentle thoughts of the Natural World

I know that a large number of Painted Ladies have recently been reported in the Lubbock area, so I asked Randy to send a photo if he wouldn't mind. He sent a photo of a very worn monarch consistent with the amount of wear of an overwintering individual.
