We were checking our Monarch Way station to see the milkweeds that had just broken the soil yesterday. They had grown at lease 3 inches in one day. Suddenly my husband spotted an adult Monarch flitting about the yard. We have tagged and monitored Monarchs for years, so we were certain of our sighting. We then began checking the milkweed in the garden, and sure enough the Monarch had deposited many eggs on the newly emerging plants. We collected about 15 of them, and left another 15 there for later. IT was a most thrilling experience. We have never seen Monarchs so early. Usually it is mid May before we see Monarchs in this area.
