Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/27/2008

Number: 1

Several 4th grade students spotted adult monarchs flying in fields.

We just did the lesson on observers that you had on your web site and we talked about why you had to have reliable sources, from which you might have to verify information. So this is great. I’ll ask them tomorrow again about their sightings. But, we did have four kids who said they saw monarchs in fields over the weekend. They know about viceroys and painted ladies, and we’ve raised monarchs, so I think they’re on target.

One of my students said she’s sure it was a monarch because she saw it on milkweed. We’ve been growing milkweed in our garden at school, so I think she knows what she’s seeing. But, since I was not with her I can’t confirm. We’ll keep watching our butterfly garden at school.
