They finally made it. I heard from several people the first American Robin was seen in Porter Creek (Whitehorse) on Saturday April 26th. That is a few weeks late. I still haven’t heard of anyone hearing them singing, but this morning there were White-crowned Sparrow, Varied Thrush, Dark-eyed Juncos and Yellow-rumped Warblers all singing in my yard, so I suspect the birds are back.
It was very spooky last week. All the winter residents had either moved north or were nesting, so except for a few Red-breasted Nuthatches there was no spring bird song. We live in the middle of the woods and it was truly “Silent Spring”.
