Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/27/2008

Number: 1

Finally while constructing a gazebo for our deck area, my wife and I spotted our first Monarch. It must have been staying to our north. Because when we spotted him, he was heading due south. Which makes sense to me, due to forecasts were calling for a big cold front to be moving in during the middle of the upcoming week.

He looked very healthy with bright coloring and average size. Temperatures on the 27th were approaching the mid 80's here, which is way above the average for this time of the year.

I'm entering this observation on the 29th of April, when I woke at 3:30 a.m. this morning the temperature was 31'. So, yes we did get the cold front that was in the forecast. Hopefully this will be the last major cold snap that we will have this spring. I'm ready for the sunshine and warmer temperatures to stay until next fall. Time will only tell.
