We now have 6 nesting pairs around our home, along with several other juveniles accompanying their parents from last year. Or at least that is the way it appears to me I could be mistaken. If anyone else observing their Robins can verify this type of behavior, please pass this information along.
I've been able to observe a somewhat different habit or posture of a few of the females. When ever they are within a foot or less distance from their mate. Right after they land together the females will do a side step hop to either side of the male. I will try to observe closely in the days to come to see if this is a coincidental behavior or if it's part of a territorial display or a possible mating dance.
Personally I think it could be the latter, even though most of the pairs already have eggs in their nests. This could be part of a structured behavior to ensure the continued relationship with their mate.
Again I ask for confirmation of this from any of the teachers who may be teac
