Robin (First HEARD singing)

Date: 04/28/2008

Number: 1

We've had an exceptionally cold spring. I still have mounds of snow on my lawn although it is now melting fast. I heard and saw one lone male singing his heart out April 28th, but on April 30th we had a super snowfall and it turned cold, and I heard no one making an effort until the weekend of May 3-4, and of course, they are making up for lost time.

We are two to three weeks behind a normal spring. Our two species of hummingbirds did not show up until the end of April instead of mid-April. However, there has been more bird song this spring than any for quite awhile...because they are all hanging around and not moving north or to the high country. I'm still watching for signs of nest building.
