In our Lake Simond observations from January 1st this year until ice out on April 18th, only seven banded birds were spotted, only one being unidentifiable. That compared to twelve banded birds last year, two of which had unreadable silver bands, believed to be federally tagged migrants. This year the following known birds appeared on the dates indicated: V21 left, silver right on Jan. 5th; N47 rt.,silver l., Feb 10th; N56 l, silver rt.,Mar. 13th; K55 l, silver rt., Mar. 29th; F29 l, silver re.,Mar. 30th; sub-adult copper band left with very narrow silver band right together with younger black-beaked sub W25 rt., silver left on April 8th. Another ten recognizable but unbanded birds conservatively bring sightings to 17 different visitors, all appearing very fit and hungry. Did not see K56,V65,F37.Y86,P12 or Y87 this year. Wonder why?
