Looked like it was aborting a landing in our backyard. My daughter and I caught sight of it flapping mightily to regain flight, and then it was gone. This was at about 2:30 PM on Mother's day. We did not know what kind of bird it was other than it was quite white and huge. Definitely much larger than any herons and thicker body. I looked at pictures of sand hill cranes also, but this bird was pure white. I never really noticed the head, but it had a long neck held in an S shape.
