I was beginning the think the robins had given up on Anchorage as a suitable climate. I hadn’t seen a one! As I lay in bed this morning deciding to get up, I could hear the birds singing in the new day. I realized I was listening to a song I hadn’t heard all winter. Then, looking out my window, I saw a very busy robin at work in one of my trees!
So, in time, spring does come to the Greatland. Our temperatures are reaching into the low 50’s most days and the leaves on the birch trees are finally beginning to show. We have field day today for the kids and at the moment, the skies are fairly clear, so I’m hoping for warm sun, but dressing for the predicted clouds and possible showers.
Yesterday, though, my husband took the dog on a hike up a little mountain called Flattop, maybe 1500 feet above sea level, and he encountered a spring snowstorm near the top. Let’s hope those snowflakes keep climbing into the hills and out of Anchorage!
