Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/16/2008

Number: 1

Quite often we see the hummingbirds and orioles on the feeders at approximately the same date ... that's exactly what occurred this year. We are seeing a large male with great frequency. I believe this is our regular annual visitor as he has an injured foot. When I came out the door to check the nectar quantities in the feeders (they are communal feeders shared by hummers, orioles, squirrels, woodpeckers and house finches so they become depleted quickly) he hovered right over my shoulder. Later in the day when I came home with hanging baskets of flowers he busily checked out each basket of blossoms - something like a hummingbird smörgåsbord.
