Oriole (1st Baltimore)

Date: 05/22/2008

Number: 1

This morning while we were watching a pair of Eastern Bluebirds, which we are really hoping will nest in the Bluebird house we have in our yard, I saw a flash of orange and thought a Robin had chased the male Bluebird from the top of the house. Then I realized it was an Oriole sitting on top of the house! I was so thrilled. It is the first one I have ever seen. I have put out syrup in an Oriole feeder the past three years and never attracted any. This year my husband made me a feeder like one pictured in Birds and Blooms magazine. It is hanging about fifteen feet from the Bluebird house. The Oriole proceeded to go over to the feeder and eat grape jelly. I was just so happy. I hope I see it again!
