Saw my first monarch butterfly - too far away to spy gender - today while pulling garlic mustard at Theodore Stone Forest Preserve, in Hodgkins, IL, just west of Chicago. Clear day, no wind, will be overcast in the afternoon later on, but it was sunny and warm when I made the sighting.
