Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/29/2008

Number: 1

Very exciting news from Cambridgeport School, Cambridge, Ma. on May 29 @ 2:00 p.m. my first and second graders were turning the soil and beginning to plant our butterfly garden and one of the kids looked up and a monarch was cruising right towards us. Unbelievable excitement erupted.
One student (who spends 85% of his day wandering and disengaged) said, "They're back. I knew it would be any day." He was actually wondering and waiting. Personally, I have never seen a monarch so early but as I have learned over the years and my second grader has learned through participating in Journey North, you have to look to see you have to wonder to decide to look.
