Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/31/2008

Number: 1

2 female monarchs (1 captured and examined and found to be in excellent condition with very little fading of the wings) at East Point Park, Toronto. Monarchs were flying around and in the vicinity of a few large wild apple trees in full blossom right on the cliff above the shore of Lake Ontario.

No eggs found. Milkweed at Lake Ontario shoreline area only 6 inches to 12 inches tall due to colder temperatures maintained by the cold lake water. However, the milkweed is in superb condition and ready for monarchs!
