Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/31/2008

Number: 1

The 45 degree N. temperature barrier seems to have been broken. On 5/31/08 at 1:30 pm a Monarch was observed flying north across Hwy 62 at Penn Ave. about 20 ft. above the ground. Later that day another Monarch was observed at Washburn HS in So. Minneapolis. On 6/1/2008 a Monarch was seen flitting from plant to plant (but not milkweed) in my garden. Their presence was further confirmed on 6/2 and 6/3 by observation of the 1st eggs (see report on 1st Monarch egg sightings - Minneapolis, MN & Glenwood City, WI). Since 6/2 though it has been cool and cloudy with rain, so have not seen anymore. Probably too cool to fly a lot.
