Today is my first sighting for 2008. Milkweed has been coming up for about a week now and is over a foot high. In addition to the purple milkweed, last year I planted orange milkweed to see if it attracted Monarchs differently than the common purple variety. From my observations, the Monarch caterpillar does not make its cocoon on a milkweed plant. That's why I let weeds grow in my milkweed patch.
