I was leading a butterfly and dragonfly trip today near Lake Dalrymple for the Carden Nature Festival and observed my first Monarch of the year flying late in the afternoon along the shores of Lake Dalrymple north of Kirkfield. We had not recorded any Monarchs for the day up until this time but several other species of butterflies and dragonflies. Finally, after waiting for three weeks the Monarch have finally made it this far north.
