I took a trip along the east Toronto waterfront on Saturday (including East Point Park and the nearby water filtration plant). I saw 7 monarchs - all appearing to be female, a few eggs, but no caterpillars. About 4 of the monarchs were in pristine condition. The vegetation is lush and green and the milkweed plants had all sorts of predators on them - ants, spiders, etc. Again, air temperatures near Lake Ontario are cool. In the past two weeks, the weather here has remained cool or overcast with rain - not the best for migration nor reproduction.
