I witnessed something this morning that was very interesting. We have a some large rather large pieces of wood that are too large to go in our wood stove, and we are letting them season out before splitting them. They are turned up on end which allows me to use them for a stool while I sometimes sit and contemplate life. This morning I was watering one of our many flower gardens this one being on the lower side of our home.
While standing there a beautiful young male robin landed on one of the pieces of wood and began to do a dance of sorts. It actually reminded me of a short version of the mating dance that the Ruffed Grouse performs. The only difference being that he didn't circle like the grouse does. He just stood still while shuffling his feet quickly and squatting somewhat. There were two females in the grass nearby hunting for bugs and such, so what I saw made sense.
