Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 06/29/2008

Number: 1

Finally they're here! I saw a tattered Monarch several weeks ago fly through my Waystation No. 613 here in NW Ohio, about 13 miles south of Lake Erie. Since then, no Monarchs or eggs anywhere; I checked county roadsides, parks, etc. Visited my brother outside Cambridge Springs Pa. (zip 16403). He created Monarch Waystation No. 1704. Monarchs were more plentiful but still not very many. I brought home two small cats and 3 eggs. Yesterday (Sat.), I checked out a patch of Milkweed growing behind a discount furniture store here in Fremont, Ohio. They had mowed and sprayed this "waste" area, but I still found a dozen Monarch eggs and the remaining Milkweeds. On several plants, the eggs were laid twice on the same leaf. Perhaps, it was one female Monarch that came through; I checked other "waste" area Milkweed plants and zilch, not one egg. No Monarchs have been seen flying. At least I saved a dozen eggs and future cats from the mower play and pesticide spray can. They are in my Monarch Ways
